Key Summit, New Zealand

Stepping off the plane in Queenstown last December is a moment I won’t soon forget. After coming from hot and humid Byron Bay, Australia, it was literally a breath of fresh air to be greeted by a cold breeze and the smell of pine trees. I stayed one night in arguably the adventure capitol, had a famous Fer Burger, and then picked up my Pod van rental for the start of my solo road trip around the South Island.

The first stop was Key Summit, which is on the way to Milford Sound. I planned on camping out somewhere in the valley that first night, so I made an afternoon “tramp” up to Key Point. I had the place to myself! It was a great start to the trip and I made my way to a DOC campground surrounded by stunning lupine.
