I’m always excited when September rolls around. For the third year in a row (and the last time it will happen here), the WSL finals came to town, bringing the top 5 men and women surfers to compete for a world title. I woke up at 4 AM and quickly hopped on my bike, loaded up with camera and beach gear, to stake my spot on the famous cobblestone point. I happened to get the best bit of beach there is, and the beach was quickly packed out before the sun even came up.
The surf was decent… definitely not as good as the first year but better than last year. It stayed glassy all day as a fun south swell pulsed through. The surfing was excellent but, unfortunately, our local San Clemente title contender fell short for the second year in a row.
